Dita Von Teese’s Halloween costume: ‘I’m going as a normal girl’

Most of us like to dress up like our favorite fantasy character for Halloween. I think I went trick-or-treating as Wonder Woman three years in a row when I was a kid, until my mom quietly retired that costume in the off season. A few years ago, I found a grown up Wonder Woman costume and relived my glory days. But what if you’re a glamorous burlesque icon in real life- how do you dress up for Halloween? Dita Von Teese says she’s going as a “normal girl” this year- complete with self tanner and jeans. It’s brilliant- no one will ever recognize her!

The burlesque beauty – who is famous for her pale skin, red lipstick, raven black hair and love of vintage clothing – jokes no-one will recognise her if she makes herself look ordinary.
Speaking in an interview to be shown on Channel 4’s T4 show ‘Frock Me’ on Sunday (26.10.08), Dita said: “For Halloween, I’m going to look like a normal girl, put some bronzer on, some spray tan on and wear some jeans. People will ask me where my costume is!
“I would never do this in normal life, that’s why I’ll do it at Halloween. It’s a bit funny and people think I’m not wearing a costume but I really am.”
Dita recently revealed she has vowed never to wear jeans, because she prefers “expressing” herself through 40s-style corsets and dresses.
She said: “I’ve always felt that clothes are an important way of expressing how you want the world to see you.
“I don’t look down on people who wear jeans and T-shirts, but ever since I was a little girl, I picked out my own clothes.”
I’m having a frustrating time finding a costume this year, since I’m six months pregnant. It seems like the only female costumes available anymore are slutty ones. Even little girls’ costumes seem more than a little racy and not at all age appropriate. When did that happen? Anyway, I sure hope someone gets a picture of Dita in her jeans and fake tan. I would love to see that.
