Tom Selleck won the 1984 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. John Hillerman won for  Outstanding Continuing Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1987. The series was rebooted in 2018 by CBS with Jay Hernandez in the title role.
