Miley Cyrus rocks out The Honda Center Arena in Anaheim, CA
The NY Daily News had this little piece of gossip up over the weekend that I thought was interesting. Apparently, Miley Cyrus doesn’t tip when she goes out to eat. Or, at least, she didn’t tip one time recently at an Outback Steakhouse. Sources tell the NYDN that Miley and her sister Brandi got $70 worth of steak and mac-and-cheese, but didn’t leave anything for the server:

Hey, Miley Cyrus, you made $25 million last year – toss a dollar in the tip cup. The “Hannah Montana” star got $70 worth of steak and mac and cheese for herself and sister Brandi at the Outback Steakhouse in Burbank last Sunday. Our spy says she pulled an envelope of Benjamins out of her purse and handed one over, “but she kept all the change.” Cyrus’ spokeswoman tells us, “She didn’t know she was supposed to tip unless she was eating inside.”

I’m going to go out on a limb and defend Miley, because I could easily see how a tipping miscommunication could happen. First of all, at many of these chain restaurants, gratuity is automatically added to the check if it’s over a certain dollar amount. Unfortunately for Miley, I don’t even think that was her reasoning – it sounds like she was just picking up the food rather than dining in, and didn’t think she had to tip. I tip less when I’m picking up, but I still tip. Oh well – lesson learned, Miley. Always tip!

In other Miley-related news, last week CB informed us that Miley had quit her Twitter at the request of her hottie boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. This story would seem to indicate that Miley might be developing something close to a sense of “privacy”. Interesting concept, eh? Of course the closing of Miley’s Twitter account was a cause for concern for Miley’s whackadoodle father, Billy Ray. The Mullet tweeted: “Miley. You are light in a world of darkness. You were born ‘Destiny Hope Cyrus’ for a reason. You can’t leave everyone now. We r countin on u….“it is true one bad apple spoils the bunch”. But listen to the words of your songs ‘Stand… for what ya believe in’…Remember?” After that The Mullet added: “Words can hurt worse than bullets True. All the more reason to take this tool and tweet ‘I’m comin to Chicago and askin kids to stop killin kids.'” Must. Stop. The. Mullet.

So, in response to her father’s tweet-whines and her fans’ complaints, Miley released a You Tube video of a rap that she wrote – all about leaving Twitter. Since I don’t even want to watch the damn thing, I’m just going to take Us Weekly’s word for what the song was about:

It’s a rap for Miley Cyrus! The singer, 16, stands by her decision to quit Twitter by posting a YouTube video in which she raps her reasons for signing off the micro-blogging site.

In the choreographed video, the Hannah Montana star sings that “the rumors are true” that she deleted her account. “I had to say goodbye, and this little rap is to tell my fans why,” she says.

On Thursday, she posted one of her final Twitter messages, saying that her new beau, Last Song costar Liam Hemsworth, disapproved of the site.

“Liam doesn’t have a Twitter and he wants me to delete mine with good reason,” she Twittered.

Still, Cyrus asserts in the video that he wasn’t the catalyst.

“It wasn’t because my friend told me to,” she says. “I stopped living for moments and started living for people… I want my private life private. I’m living for me.”

As I’ve said before, I have mixed feeling about Miley. While I think she totally has her bratty, ignorant, entitled moments, I also think she’s trying to become a better person. She strikes me as a young woman who is incredibly self-aware and driven, and who has an idea of the kind of long-term career she wants to achieve outside of Disney. Raps about Twitter don’t help her cause, but hopefully she’ll seek out a different kind of quality of fame in the future.
