Canadian-born music superstar Shania Twain, 42, leads a relatively press-free lifestyle. She lives in the French area of Switzerland and in New Zealand, and only occasionally pops up in the states for an event. She hasn’t released an album in nearly four years, since her Greatest Hits came out in 2004. Considering how ubiquitous her songs are, she probably doesn’t need to work for some time, but she’s about to come back into the spotlight. She is quoted at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May, 2007, as saying that she was doing a “lot of soul searching” and “indulging in the writing [of new music].” She said she hopes to have an album out sometime in the following year, which would be around now. Maybe Twain was hinting at issues in her 14 year marriage when she said she was doing some soul searching. Her rep has announced that she is separating from her producer husband, Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, 59, after 14 years of marriage. They have a six year old son together, Eja D’Angelo.
People Magazine notes that Shania also has a new perfume coming out this year. She is quoted saying that she struggled with her fame, which is thought to be why she moved to Switzerland in 2000. Maybe it was time for her to let go of a troubled relationship or maybe it’s been over for some time and since she’s about to make a comeback it was time to announce it.
Shania and Robert produced her 1998 hit song “You’re Still The One” together. It is thought to be aimed at critics of their relationship when they first started dating in the mid 90s. Robert is 17 years older than Shania and their relationship was met with skepticism.
